In 1910 the rail line between Ione and Mataline Falls was completed. That same year the trestle over Box Canyon Dam and the large cement holding silos of the Inland Portland Cement Plant were finished.
For those who like views and a bit of history to enrich it, this offers an ideal way to experience part of Washington. Lions Train Rides takes you into areas you’d have to hike for hours to get to and where no road has been built but where the train line displays wildlife and foliage nestled next to structures humans crafted back in the early 1900’s. Sometimes the two mix as seen by the apple trees growing from apple cores thrown by the railroad workers years ago. Eagles and elk can even be seen along the river in the canyon during this trip through history.
