2010 US figure Skating Championships
With regular yearly snowfall, ice skating rinks, and mountains nearby to ski, snowboard or sled on, Spokane is a terrific place to experience winter's best. But next year, winter will be even sweeter in the Inland Northwest.
World-class figure skaters will travel to Spokane for the 2010 US Figure Skating Championships being held from January 14 through the 24. The skaters will compete in Spokane just 18 days prior to the start of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, British Columbia. The performances will be exquisite as the championship meet will serve as an Olympic Trial for American figure skaters.
Spokane is the best host for the event because of its enthusiasm and history of drawing unexpectedly high attendance, according to the Los Angeles Times. When Spokane held the event in 2007, the city drew the largest crowds in the Championship's history. Members of the crowds in 2010 will have the opportunity watch couples ice dance with difficult footwork, single female and male skaters perform triple and quadruple axels, and pairs execute lifts.
The competition will occur over two weekends. During the first weekend, championship-level men's and pairs will skate. During the second weekend, championship-level ladies and ice dancing pairs will skate. We suggest you attend at least one weekend, if not both. This is an event you won't want to miss.
Stratford Suites is the ideal place to stay while in Spokane for this event. We offer all of the comforts of home as well as some extras including a 50" HDTV, free Wi-Fi, full kitchen and free local and long distance calls. If your planning on attending both weekends, spend the week exploring Spokane's other attractions and practicing your own skating at Riverfront Park's Ice Palace.
